Vitals™ is a camera agnostic AI software for vital sign measurements. It is compatible with the built-in RGB color camera from majority of the devices like smartphones, tablets, laptops, and kiosks with a plugin camera (with adequate minimum camera parameters).

Face Detection

The RGB camera would capture the color changes of the blood circulation which are invisible to human naked eyes. A face-detection algorithm is used to select the regions of interest (ROIs) on the face and the areas with strong signal are obtained by exploiting facial surface orientation for further signal processing.

Vital-sign Data Analysis

Photoplethysmography (PPG), the most used conventional methods for vital sign analysis, Traditional PPG measurement devices require straight contact to the skin. Although the contact measurement method is accurate, it will inevitably bring a lot of discomfort and inconvenience based on the patient’s skin condition, especially for long-time wearing.


Vitals™ is surpassing the traditional method to utilize remote Photoplethysmography (rPPG) that not only brings us an unobstructive solution with only a single webcam but also provides *comparable accuracies. It is based on the fact that color images recorded by the webcam contain subtle color changes in optical signals caused by the blood volume changes under the skin. With advanced signal processing and AI-driven algorithms such as Blind Source Separation (BSS), state-of-the-art deep-learning (DL) methods, the PPG signals that contain the physiological information hidden in the face images can be uncovered. It can be further analyzed with post-processing techniques (e.g., frequency analysis and peak detection) to give an index to the core vital signs.

Personalized Recommendations

After the core vital signs are measured, users can learn about their physiological signs e.g., heart rate, respiratory rate, heart rate variability, stress index, etc. and get actionable insights. Accurate measurement of these core vitals enables further diagnostic capabilities such as fever, stress, cardiac and respiratory risks, and more to allow users to monitor and improve their health.
